Behind the scenes scientific tours

Be among the first to visit Australia’s new Molybdenum-99 production facility – which will enable ANSTO to increase global supply of the world’s most widely used nuclear medicine.


Take a behind the scenes tour at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), the home of Australia’s only nuclear reactor and the world’s newest Molybdenum-99 production facility.

ANSTO – Lucas Heights, Sydney

As special guests of ANSTO, WFNMB Congress delegates have the unique opportunity to be the among the first visitors to the new Mo-99 production facility. This facility will enable ANSTO to have the capacity to provide up to 25 per cent of the global demand for Mo-99, the most widely used nuclear medicine contributing greatly to both domestic and international health outcomes.

The tour will also include a visit to the state-of-the-art Open Pool Australian Light-water (OPAL) multipurpose reactor, regarded as one of the most efficient reactors in the world.

Join us for a tour of the Australian Synchrotron, which is among the nation’s most significant pieces of scientific infrastructure.

ANSTO – Clayton, Melbourne

Using light that is a million times brighter than the sun, the Australian Synchrotron is used for a variety of applications from discovering new potential cancer treatments, to understanding our solar system.

A focus of this tour is world-leading Medical Imaging Beamlines and the Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) Detector that deliver research outcomes across every discipline from medicine to manufacturing, agriculture to the arts.
